In 1968, Jim and his family moved to Ottawa from his childhood home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
In 1991, he opened Billy Bob’s Country Bunker, which became a popular venue for live country entertainment. His support of country music in the Ottawa Valley made him a perfect candidate for the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame.
In 1992, on the urging of Ron Sparling, Hal Lee and Ralph Carlson, he joined the Board of Directors and has served the organization since then. He also became a member of the first elected Board of Directors of Valley Heritage Radio in 2005. Since that time, he has served VHR in a number of different capacities, as a Board member, as Vice President, and as the Station Manager.
Jim left the station briefly but returned in April of 2013 as their volunteer coordinator and events planner.
