Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Vic was exposed at an early age to country music when families gathered around the 'wireless' radio to listen to stations WSM (Nashville) and WWVA (Wheeling, West Virginia). He joined the RCAF in 1959 and got into the radio business as a volunteer in the early 60's at radio station CFWH in Whitehorse, YT. He hosted his first country radio program in 1962 at Canadian Armed Forces radio station A.R.S (now CHAR) in Alert, NWT. He moved to the Ottawa Valley in 1965, and continued his country music radio shows intermittently. After 13 years with the RCAF, Vic signed up with DND in Ottawa. During postings with the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, he met Linda Mae.
Linda was born of pure country folk from southern Maryland and the hills of Kentucky and always had a penchant for work that brought happiness to many. She and Vic married and came to Ottawa in 1984. After an early retirement, Vic began to DJ with Pontiac Radio, CHIP in 1996, where he hosted traditional country music programs in English and French, did stints as Music Director, Program Director, and Station Manager and served on the Board of Directors. Linda was right alongside, helping promote the station and country music throughout the Ottawa Valley, organizing artists’ events, sponsors, on-air radiothons, and fundraising concerts. In 2001, Vic was awarded the "Red Bennet Award" for DJ of the Year and in 2003 was awarded the "Radio Personality" of the year, both awards from the Ottawa Valley Music Association (OVMA). In 2003, he and Linda Mae founded the Valley Heritage Radio (CJHR 98.7 FM) Project and were instrumental in bringing the station to the airwaves. They were members of the original start-up committee and served on the first elected Board of Directors.
Vic still spends many hours collecting and preparing music for station databases and his own radio programs, he continues to volunteer, attend and MC events in the community, and he hosts Vic's Classic Country on Sunday afternoons . Linda continues to volunteer at station events and joins Vic for special occasions on the air.
