Phillippe Labelle was born and raised right here in Ottawa. Growing up in a very musical, French Canadian family, Phil was surrounded by music from an early age. His father was a talented musician and his Mother put a guitar into a young Phil’s hands at 4 years of age ... and the rest, as they say, is history.
His love for country music was immediate as he learned songs from all his favourites from Buck Owens and Merle Haggard to Elvis and The Beatles, from Bob King to Terry Carisse to Ralph Carlson and everything in between. By 13 Phil was playing his music in retirement homes, hospitals and secondary schools. By 17 Phil was playing bars and restaurants all over Ottawa. As a cook and a guest performer at the legendary "Nashville Palace/Music City Bar & Grill", Phil shared the stage with many artists from the Ottawa Valley and was one of the artist's that joined Kitty Wells, Johnny Wright and Bobby Wright and Charlie Walker in their farwell show.
By 20, Phil formed his own band, "Twin Country", with his twin brother Marcel at his side and started putting his own mark on the Ottawa Valley Country Music scene. Phil"s bands evolved and altered over the years and featured some legendary members like Ron Doxteter and Bob Holt, playing up and down the 401 from Oshawa to Montreal and in New York. For the last 20 years, Country Reflections, with Phil Labelle, Joe Polar, Brian Seguin and Mario Lachance, has been entertaining thousands all over Ottawa & the Valley in Legions, bars and at various festivals.
Phil has always made giving back to both the community and the Ottawa Valley Country music industry a priority. Each year he donates his time, expertise and talents to dozens of fundraising efforts including those for The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society, MS Society and The Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa. His efforts have helped raise awareness for these causes as well as much needed funds.
Phil has always believed in keeping alive the history of those who blazed the trail before him. Playing with Ottawa Valley country music greats like Rick Thompson, Neville Wells, Ron McMunn, Ralph Carlson, Howard Hayes, Gary Fairburn and many others has allowed him to continue to shine the spotlight on the music he loves so much.
