South Mountain was an Ottawa Valley based group originally featuring the talents of Steve Piticco, Laurie Laporte-Piticco, Todd Nolan, Don Reed and the late Bill Carruthers. They have undergone several personnel changes since this original grouping, however these five individuals with their unique vocal blend, and musicianship developed a sound that brought them much success.
If you were a Country Music Fan in the late 1980’s and 90’s in Canada, Europe and the United States, South Mountain would be a name you would recognize.
Among their many accolades, South Mountain won the CCMA’s 1991 Vista Rising Star Award. They were nominated several times for CCMA’s Group of the Year as well as Group of the Year for the Dutch International Awards. South Mountain hosted their own television series called Canadian Country Express for four years. This tv show was taped in Pembroke and Live at the Canadian National Exhibition.
South Mountain was approached by Lucille Star to be her back up band in Europe, which they happily accepted. After touring for several years with Lucille, they developed their own following in the European Market, and started touring on their own in Europe.
At the height of their career, the band toured with or opened for such artists as Charlie Pride, Vince Gill & Conway Twitty, and they backed up artists such as Colleen Peterson, Albert Lee, Razzy Baily, Johnny Burke and Harold MacIntyre, as well as many others.
The band had several singles on Radio, and had guest appearances on tv throughout Canada and Europe, such as The Tommy Hunter Show, The Canadian Country Music Association Award shows and Breakfast Television.
