THE DEBENHAM BROTHERS (2024 Inductees)

The Debenham Brothers have called the Ottawa Valley home for most of their lives including spending their teenage years in Cobden. Dave, Bill and Jim started their music career in 1977 as a Bluegrass band called High Strung. Bluegrass is where the brothers learned to sing harmony and how to use dynamics. Although they all started by playing guitar, Bill moved on to the mandolin which became their signature sound.

When they started raising their young families they moved to Renfrew and began writing their own songs. In 1989 they released their first country album, recording three of the ten original songs in Nashville. Once the album was released, they toured from Edmonton to Halifax during which time four of the songs became #1 hits in Canada and in Europe. Over the next three years The Debenham Brothers were nominated for eight CCM’s including Album, Song and Group of the Year; and they were also nominated in 1992 for RPM Big Country Top Group or Duo Award along with Blue Rodeo and Prairie Oyster.

Over the years they have shared the stage with many acts such as The Good Brothers, and Ronnie Hawkins, and played numerous fairs and festivals including the Havelock Jamboree and the Shawville Fair..
